Fuson Wins Wild BCRA Midget Main

By, Mark Sublett04-24-21, Merced, CA…….Brody Fuson from Bakersfield overcame adversity to win the Bay Cities Racing Association Midget main event held in honor of Wayne Albright Saturday night at Merced Speedway. In a wild main event that saw a big crash on the start that caused Fresno driver David Raquenio be taken to the hospital and several contenders taken off by the tow truck. On the restart Kyle Beilman flipped for the second time after touching wheels going down the backstretch with a slowing car. Maria Cofer took the lead on the next try but spun off the track hitting the turn 2 fence ending her night after a lap or two. Once racing got going Fuson grabbed the lead only to spin off the track himself a few laps later and had to restart at the tail. Now rookie Kyle Mentch took over the top spot with David Prickett a close second and the “Panda” Terry Nichols third. Nichols got by Prickett and Mentch had his own slip off the dry slick track allowing Nichols to take the lead. The final laps saw a great three car battle for the win unfold with Fuson making come from behind passes on Prickett and then Nichols to win the race shortened 15 lapper. Prickett raced second and Nichols was disappointed with third after leading late. The BCRA and Merced Speedway wish driver David Raquenio a speedy recovery after suffering numerous injuries in the first lap crash.
